How much clay does it take to throw a dinner plate, a mug, or a bowl on the pottery wheel depends on a couple of variables. The thickness of the wall, the profile of the piece, the foot, any carvings and alterations are just to name a few. But for a beginner, here are some common weights and sizes to get you started.
